I lost my job at the end of January when the restaurant on Burnet cut half the staff, and I've been picking up day work through a temp agency since. Last week a molar that's been aching for months finally cracked, and the pain is keeping me up at night. I went to the urgent dental clinic over on Airport and they quoted me $280 as a deposit before they'll pull it, scheduled for Friday morning. I checked with the county assistance office first, but they said dental isn't covered unless it's an emergency extraction through their referral program and the next opening isn't until mid-March. I called 311 and they gave me a list of sliding-scale clinics, but the two closest ones are booked out past the date and the third said they only do cleanings. I also tried switching my pharmacy refill to a cheaper generic, but my co-pay actually went up because I'm on a different plan now. Anything helps toward the $280, and I'll send a photo of the receipt from the clinic as soon as it's done. Once I'm working steady again I want to put the same amount toward someone else's emergency here.

I've been doing Instacart since, but my car started overheating and I had to put $180 into it, which wiped out what I had set aside for gas. Now I've got a final-round interview at a logistics company in Blue Ash on the 27th and I'm on empty. I already sold my Xbox and asked my sister, but she's stretched thin with her own kids. St. Vincent de Paul only does gas cards on Tuesdays and I missed the window. What I need is $260 to fill the tank and cover the drive for the next week so I can get to the interview and back without worrying. If it goes well, I start the first week of next month and will pay it forward to the next person here. I'll post an update either way.

Sign in to view →I work nights stocking at the Hy-Vee on Saddle Creek, or I did until the reorg in July. They cut the overnight differential and my hours went from 38 to 22. I have two kids, and my youngest wears hearing aids. The battery packs run about $65 each and she burns through them, so I usually buy four at a time. I was keeping up until the overtime vanished. I've called Nebraska Health Connection and they said to reapply but that takes weeks, and the Lions Club here only does one battery order a year. I sold my treadmill on Facebook Marketplace for $80, which covered part of it. Rent took the rest. She starts fifth grade at Franklin on Monday and I can't send her with dead aids, she can't hear the teacher. What I'm asking is $260 to get the four packs. I can show the receipt, and I'll pay it back $40 a paycheck once the new schedule kicks in, or pass it to the next family on here.

Then the daycare told me on the 14th they were raising rates, retroactive to the start of the month, so my budget for the last two weeks basically disappeared. I'm down to one clean uniform shirt and a couple of towels for my daughter. I've already asked the daycare for a payment plan and they said no, and I called 211 but the laundry assistance list they gave me was all out of date. I'm asking for $60 to load two laundry cards at the laundromat on Baltimore Ave and cover a few loads over the next ten days, plus detergent. I can pick up a Saturday shift at the bakery to pay it back by the 30th, and I'm happy to send a photo of the receipt. If you'd rather pay the laundromat directly, that works too.

Tips have dried up for two weeks, and after rent and the CTA, I don't have enough wiggle room to cover an eye exam. I failed the last vision screening my gig required because my reading is blurry through one lens, and I need the exam and basic frames before a Friday deadline from the workforce center. I already tried two clinics off Western that said they can't fit me in before the week is over. Part of the money would go to the exam and the rest to a simple pair of glasses. I’ll send a receipt or screenshot of the appointment so you know it’s not a runaround. Once I’m back on the road, I’ll pass along the same amount to another driver who hits a snag, through the same workforce center desk that referred me here.

I was working at the Marriott until the overtime vanished after a reorg in July, and now I'm scraping by on partial unemployment while I fight for back pay. I got a hearing Friday at 10am and the packet is all in Swahili from when I fled Congo years ago, so they can't process it. I tried 211 and they gave me a list of agencies but most said two weeks out or had no interpreters. Legal Aid said they might call back but nothing yet. If you can translate or know someone who can, I'll meet anywhere in the Hill, Oakland, or downtown. I'll take a photo of the completed packet and the hearing notice, and pay it forward by helping my neighbor with his paperwork once I get through this.

I had three months of savings that went fast, mostly to keep my van running so I could take whatever one-off gigs came up. Then in early May someone backed into my van while it was parked outside my building on a Tuesday morning and took off. I filed a claim with my insurance through the company, and two weeks later I got a letter denying it because they said the damage was pre-existing. It wasn't. I've been fighting that by phone and mail ever since. I've already sold my guitars and used my last unemployment payment for rent. What I need is $150 to cover my storage unit, which has my tools, my rigging gear, and basically everything I own. I'm about two weeks behind on the payment. My brother is willing to front half if I can come up with the rest, so anything anyone can chip in is going straight to that. If I can settle this and get some work going, I will pass it on to the next person on here who needs it.

That was two days before payday, so the check I just got was short and my rent took almost all of it. I have an interview at a distribution center over on Strawberry Lane on the 27th, second shift, and it pays a dollar more than where I'm at, but I don't own anything I can wear to it. I've been checking the Goodwill on Bardstown and the St. Vincent de Paul on Preston, and I posted on the Nextdoor for my neighborhood asking if anyone had a men's large button-down and black pants, no luck yet. The $150 would cover a pair of pants, a shirt, and decent shoes from the thrift stores, plus TARC fare for the interview and two follow-up shifts if they hire me. I'm asking here before I go to the KentuckianaWorks office because I don't think I can get in before the 27th. I'll show the receipt for whatever I buy and, once I get my first full paycheck from the new place, I'll put the same amount toward somebody else's interview clothes on this board. I was managing okay on the Orka card until daycare told me Friday they're raising rates mid-August, $35 more a week, retroactive to the first. Between that and the MUD shutoff notice I got Tuesday, every dollar that was going to bus fare went to keeping the water on. I already called 211 and they said to try again next week once their funds refresh. I get the first distribution of my unemployment next Wednesday, so I can pay this forward then. Concretely I'm asking for $40 on a bus card, that covers rides through the second appointment on the 19th. I'll come back and update after both meetings, and if anyone wants specifics you can message me and I'll tell you exactly which routes and times. Last week our pharmacy switched insulin onto a higher tier and I didn't find out until I was at the counter with our six-year-old in the cart. It went from $35 to $105 in one visit. I paid it because he needs the insulin, but that was the grocery money and now the fridge is down to half a jar of peanut butter and some rice. I've already called the 211 line and got two pantry referrals, but the closest one is only open Tuesdays and Thursdays until 11, and I'm on the phones those hours. I've also asked my sister, but she's got her own kids and just started a job at the west side Walmart. The $70 would go to Aldi on North Rock, mostly milk, eggs, bread, ground beef, and produce, nothing fancy. I can show the pharmacy receipt and my pay stub from the 14th so you know I'm not making it up. Once I get my next check on the 3rd I'll pay it back or pass it to whoever's next on here.
