  • I'm going through one of the hardest times of my life right now. 😔 Hurricane flooding in Florida has damaged my home and ruined some of my belongings. Seeing everything like this is heartbreaking, and I'm struggling to figure out how to recover. I'm doing my best to get back on my feet, but I could really use a helping hand. 🙏 Any support, no matter how small, would mean so much to me. Thank you for your kindness and understanding. ❤️‍🩹

  • I got hired at the Amazon warehouse out on Darbytown Road, orientation is Monday the 24th, and I can't walk in without a negative TB test and the badge photo. The clinic over on Hull Street wants $95 for the test and $40 for the photo if you don't have insurance, and I don't. That part I could maybe scrape, but my roommate moved out the first week of this month and took her half of everything with her, so I'm short on the rest of what I need to get through to my first paycheck. What I'm asking for is $280, the test and photo plus a little toward my electric bill, because Dominion sent a shutoff notice dated the 12th and I have until Friday to pay it or I lose the fridge and the heat. I already called 211 and they gave me a list, most of it was out of funds. My sister offered $50 but she's got her own kids. If somebody covers this, I'll post the receipt from the clinic and the payment confirmation from Dominion the same day, and my first check comes the 7th, so I can pass the $280 on to the next person here by that weekend.

  • I was doing warehouse shifts through a temp agency out on the east side until the first week of December, when the site cut half the crew before the holiday push even started. I've applied at the QuikTrip distribution center and a couple of places off Memorial, but nothing has come through yet. I've got a shift lined up Monday with a new agency, but they require steel-toe boots and a hi-vis vest, and the deposit on the rental gear is $140, which I don't have because my pharmacy copay for my blood pressure medication went up to $61 this month and ate what I'd set aside. I've already sold my old boots and asked the two people I know who might help, and the food pantry over on 61st helped with groceries but can't cover work gear. If someone could front the $140, I'd pick up the gear Monday morning and start the shift that afternoon. I can pay it back the following Friday when I get my first check. I'll post a photo of the receipt and the pay stub so it's all in the open.

  • The layoff came down on the 14th, two weeks after my lease ended at my old place near downtown. I've been bouncing between a motel on Fowler and my brother's couch in Sulphur Springs, so my mail situation is a mess and I need everything in writing. CareerSource gave me a list of numbers but the state wants a formal appeal on paper, certified, and it has to have a date stamp inside the next three days or I lose the hearing entirely. I already sent a plain envelope, which of course vanished. I've got $41 to my name until the hearing, and the $280 covers the certified postage, the return receipts, and the notary at the shipping place on Nebraska since the motel won't let me get anything notarized. If someone can front it, I'll hand over the tracking slips so you know exactly what went out, and I'll pay it back the day the back pay lands. My brother said I could use his card to repay you, so there's that. I just can't miss this window.

  • I work in food service near downtown Kansas City and my hours got cut right in the middle of a pay period, so my next check is going to be about half of what I planned on. I have two interviews Thursday morning, one at a hospital cafeteria and one at a hotel kitchen, and both of them told me I need a current TB test and a badge photo before I can start orientation. The test through the clinic runs $150 and the photo is around $35, so I'm about $200 short. I already called the health department, and the earliest free appointment isn't until after my interviews, so that doesn't help me. I also checked with a friend who works at a pharmacy, but he said they can't do it without a work order. If someone can help me with the $200, I'll get both done Wednesday and go to my interviews with everything in hand. I can confirm with the receipts from the clinic and the photo place, and I'll pay it forward once I'm working again, probably by covering someone else's test fee at the same clinic.

  • I got laid off from the Hartford Marriott kitchen in early January and I've been staying at the workforce center on and off since then, applying to anything within bus distance. My unemployment claim is still stuck in adjudication, and the apartment we're in is between leases, which means the landlord is watching every payment like a hawk. We're $260 short on groceries and the deadline is Friday. I've already sold what I could pawn, tried the food pantry on Monday but they ran out of protein, the cash advance apps all denied me. What I really need is $260 for eggs, rice, beans, frozen vegetables and a few things for my two kids to take to school. If you can help, I'll send a photo of the receipt and a screenshot of my pending claim, and I'll pay it back the day the state releases my benefits, or pass it forward at church if the claim gets denied. I'm not asking for anything beyond what we need to eat until payday, and I'll show you where every dollar went. My phone is charged and I can answer anytime, but please know Fridays here move fast and the office closes at 4.

  • I lost my line cook job at a diner on Albemarle Road in February when the owner cut staff after the lunch crowd dried up. I've been picking up day labor through the NC Works office off Arrowood, but the last two weeks they had nothing for me. I finally got hired at a hotel kitchen near the airport and I start Monday at 6 a.m. My only boots have a split sole that soaks through and I can't stand nine hours with wet feet. I need $260 - about $95 for boots at the surplus place on South Boulevard, $135 for two weeks of bus passes since the first paycheck won't hit until the 24th, and the rest for the required non-slip mat they charge new hires. I already tried Goodwill on Freedom Drive for boots but they only had size 8s. If someone can cover this I'll bring a copy of my first pay stub to confirm I'm working and I'll pass the boots on to the next person once I get a second pair.

  • My hearing aids died Tuesday morning. I work - worked - at the Bread & Butter Diner on Park Street for six years. Last Monday they told me the morning shift was being cut. I got my last check, $312, and it went straight to rent. Now I'm stuck. The batteries cost $110 for a pack that lasts a month. Then the union, Local 371, says I owe $80 for March dues or I can't vote on the severance package next week. I already tried the county office on Main - they said it takes two weeks to process anything. My sister can't help, she's got her own kids. I need $190 by Friday to make this work. With it, I stay in the union, and I get to hear the job leads my cousin's been calling about. I'll pay it back in April when my tax refund hits, and I'll show the receipt from the union hall and the battery shop to prove where it went.

  • I was laid off from the warehouse on the east side of Hartford in early February, and my unemployment deposit has been stuck in adjudication for three weeks now. I have three mandatory appointments in the next 72 hours. Two are at the CTWorks American Job Center on Wethersfield Avenue, and one is down at the Department of Social Services office off Farmington Avenue. The city bus gets me there if I time it right, but I need their $25 weekly pass, and my intake worker told me to bring proof of every visit. My neighbor has been driving me, but her car's in the shop and she has her own shifts. I already called 211 and filed for the expedited payment, but nothing has landed yet. I'm asking for $300, which would cover the weekly bus pass plus gas and parking for my friend if she can take me Tuesday and Thursday. I can show receipts from the parking garage and my stamped appointment slips. The day my back pay clears, I'll put the first $50 into the church's community fund so someone else can make it to their appointments.

  • I work nights at a hotel near 72nd and I-80, or I did until they cut my hours to two shifts a week in August. My wife does home health aide work part time and we were barely making it, but we were making it. Then two weeks ago she ended up in the ER with a gallbladder attack. Even with the payment plan they set up, the visit ate everything we had set aside for groceries and then some, because we also had to replace our son's crib mattress after the whole thing happened at home and it couldn't be cleaned. I've called the food pantry on 24th and they're booked out until mid month. SNAP recertification is still pending and I don't know when that comes through. I have $11.40 in checking. What I need is $100 for a grocery run at the Aldi on Saddle Creek before Thursday, because Thursday morning is my first interview in six weeks and I am not sitting through it hungry or sending my kid to daycare with an empty stomach. I can show the interview confirmation and the ER bill. Once I'm back on regular shifts I'll pay it forward to the same pantry waitlist.
