  • Our oil tank is reading empty and the only thing in the house that runs on it is the furnace, so we’ve been using the oven with the door open to keep the pipes from freezing. My garnishment started without warning two weeks ago when a creditor got a default judgment I never knew about. I work part-time at a diner on Meeting Street, but after the garnishment my take-home is down to about $160 a week. I scraped together $40 from returning cans and sold my late father’s circular saw on Facebook Marketplace for $60. I called 211, Palmetto CAP, and the Lowcountry Food Bank, but everyone’s out of heating assistance until November. I also posted on Nextdoor and only got one reply from someone who thought I was a scam. The $180 would pay for a 100-gallon top-up from the same company that delivered last winter - I still have the account number. I’ll bring the receipt to the hearing on Monday to show the judge I’m trying to keep the house livable for my two kids. Once I get my tax refund in February, I’ll pay it forward to the next family in this spot. I can show the garnishment notice and the oil company’s quote to anyone who wants to see them.

  • I do gig work on the app, mostly deliveries around the south flats and over by the airport, and tips just dried up about two weeks ago. Last week I made $61 total after gas. Bent ear from the manager at the warehouse telling me they might call me back after the holidays, but that doesn't help my kids now. My youngest wears a size 10/12 coat and my daughter needs a 14/16. We looked at the Goodwill on West Street but the racks were picked over, just thin jackets with broken zippers. Facebook Marketplace has a couple listings but sellers want $40-$60 each and won't hold anything past Saturday. I called the St. Vincent de Paul helpline twice, got a voicemail each time. What I'm asking is $140 so I can grab two decent coats at the Burlington near Towne West before Friday's cold front. I'll send photos of the tags and receipts through the site, and once I'm working again I'll pay it forward to the same kind of fund that helped us.

  • I live over by the industrial park in Richmond, and two weeks ago that storm that came through took out the only tree in my yard right onto my car. Insurance is dragging its feet and I'm not getting a rental until they process the claim, which could be another month. I had just bought everything for my kids' first day back, backpacks, notebooks, uniforms, the whole thing, and it was all in the trunk because I was heading to the school that afternoon. Everything got soaked and ruined. I've already checked with the school resource office and they gave me two notebooks and some pencils but said they can't help with uniforms or the backpack. I need $320 to replace the uniforms and school supplies before Thursday morning, because I have two job interviews that day and I can't be running around town trying to piece things together on the bus with the kids out of school. If anyone can help, I'll send photos of the receipts and the uniforms on the kids, and I'll pay it forward as soon as my first paycheck comes in. Thank you for reading.

  • My husband Ray slipped on the back steps eight days ago and we spent most of Tuesday night in the emergency room at the hospital over on Westover. He's okay now, just a bad sprain and some stitches, but the bill that came through ate the $84 I'd set aside for the grocery run and then some. I'm on the schedule at the Kroger on Vann Drive but I don't get paid until Wednesday the 19th, and the pantry box we got from the church on Campbell Street is already down to a can of green beans and half a bag of rice. I need about $70 to get us through the week, mostly for milk, bread, eggs, and something with protein. We don't have kids at home anymore, so it's just the two of us. I'm not asking for cash, a gift card to the Kroger near us would be perfect. I already checked with the MIFA-style assistance line and they're booked out three weeks. Soon as I'm paid I'll turn it around and help somebody else here, and I can text a photo of the receipt to whoever helps so you know exactly where it went.

  • I work at the Wawa on West Shore and my hours got cut from 38 to 22 back in June. Last payday I noticed my check was $70 lighter than usual because the child support withholding jumped. My benefits hearing is Monday morning at the downtown office and I can't go in there empty-handed when they ask what I've done. My daughter starts fourth grade at the elementary on Euclid next week. What I'm asking for is $70 to cover the basics: a backpack, the specific composition books and folders her teacher listed, and a half-decent pair of shoes since she outgrew hers in May. I already checked the church closet on Bay to Bay but they ran out of the sizes she needs and won't restock until September. I called 211 twice and got referral numbers that never picked up. If someone can help, I'll bring the receipt to show exactly where it went, and once my hours pick back up in October I'll put the same amount back into the school supply drive at her school so another kid gets covered. I'm not looking for a hand-me-down situation here, just a bridge to get her through the first month.

  • I start a job at a warehouse out near the airport on Monday, and the first paycheck won't land until the following Friday. That gap is the whole problem. HART fares aren't much, but I ride the west corridor route and I've been reloading my card $10 at a time, and I'm down to about two days' worth. I already asked the staffing agency if they could advance anything and they said no. My sister is in Lakeland and can't help until she gets paid next Thursday, and I don't have anyone else to ask after this last stretch of unemployment. If I get $40 I can load the card once and be covered for the week, including a spare ride in case a shift runs late. I'll screenshot the reload confirmation the same day and post it here. Once I'm paid I'll put the same $40 back into this forum for someone else's bus card or gas. I don't need anything beyond the fare.

  • I got laid off from my job at a warehouse near the airport in early September, and I finally start a new position at a distribution center in North Salt Lake on the 15th. That sounds close until you do the math on what's left, which is about forty dollars and a nearly empty fridge. My unemployment claim is still pending adjudication and I've been told four to six weeks, so there is no check coming before payday no matter what I do. I already went to the LDS bishop's storehouse for a food order, and I've been hitting the pantry on 1300 South on Wednesdays, but the last time I went they were out of milk, eggs, and any kind of protein. I sold my Nintendo Switch last week for gas money and that's gone now. Three hundred dollars would cover a real grocery run at Winco, some gas for the commute, and a prescription copay that's due. I can show my layoff letter and my new hire paperwork to anyone who wants to see it. I'll pay it back in two installments once I'm getting regular checks.

  • I lost my job at the Fiesta Texas call center in August when they cut the department, and I've been doing temp work through the Workforce Solutions office on San Pedro since then but it's been mostly one or two days a week. My car got repossessed right before Thanksgiving, so I'm taking the bus everywhere now and sleeping on my cousin's floor off Culebra. The storage unit off Rogers near the transit hub holds everything I have left that didn't fit in a trash bag: my work clothes, my tools, my mom's things from when she passed in 2021. I'm behind on one month, $90 plus the late fee tacked on top, and I checked online this morning and the auction clock starts on the 19th. Family can't help, already asked. I called 211 and they gave me a couple of church numbers that never picked up. With the unit current I can pull my interview suit out for a warehouse job out on Foster Road that starts hiring in March, and this is the one thing I'm asking for, not a repeat thing. I can send a screenshot of the payoff quote through the site or the storage office can verify the balance, whatever feels right. Once I'm back on direct deposit I'll put $90 right back into this forum for the next person, my word on it.

  • I live on the east side near the old tank farm off Airport, and my oil furnace is down to maybe a quarter tank. Two weeks ago my pharmacy told me my inhaler jumped from a $12 co-pay to $95 because my plan changed at work, right around the time the shop cut my hours from 40 to 18. I paid the inhaler first, and now I'm short on the 100 gallons I need to get through the cold snap they're calling for Wednesday and Thursday. I checked 211, but the assistance they had ran out before Thanksgiving, and the church on 12th I called only does December. I asked my landlord about working off part of the rent and he said no. I work Thursday through Sunday at the shop, so I can drive to pick up a check or meet at an ATM if you'd rather not send anything electronically. I can show you the delivery receipt from my last top-up and the new pharmacy slip, and I'll pay back $60 a month for the next five months starting January 3 when I get my check.

  • The diner over on Leonard closed without warning on the 3rd, and I was on the schedule for six shifts that week. I'm staying at a shelter near the hospital district now, and I rent a small locker for $17 a week at a place near the Rapid Central Station depot. That locker is basically all I have left: my interview clothes, my ID documents, my tools. I'm behind two weeks on it, and if I don't pay by next Tuesday they'll cut the lock and dump everything, which means the interviews I have lined up go with it. I've gone through United Way's 211 line and tried Salvation Army, but they can only help with the locker or a bus pass, not both. Country Vincennes on 28th had hours through the holidays but nothing now. What I'm asking for is $290: about $45 to catch up on the locker through mid-March and the rest to get my old car inspected and insured long enough to drive to three interviews, plus gas. I would write the amount and days on an agreement here and post a photo of the receipt, and once I'm working I'd put the first $300 back here to help the next person.
