  • I live in a drafty rental near the food pantry on Florida Ave, and my oil tank is almost empty. I get by on disability and a little under-the-table work, but this month a pharmacy switched one of my meds to a higher co-pay and that extra $60 wiped me out. I've already tried the community action agency, but their heating assistance list is closed until next month. I also called 211 and they gave me a few churches, but none had funds left. I need $250 to get a minimum delivery of oil, hopefully this weekend before the temperature drops. The oil company said they can come Saturday if I pay cash. I can show the receipt and the delivery slip, and I'll pay it forward by helping my neighbor with her groceries once I'm back on my feet. Even a partial amount would help me get a smaller delivery. I'm not asking for a handout, just a bridge to get through this cold week.

  • I live in the riverside blocks on the North Side and I've been out of work since the end of February, when the temp agency I was placed through cut my assignment at a warehouse in McKees Rocks. I've got two interviews Thursday morning, one at a hotel housekeeping department downtown and one at a grocery distribution center in Imperial, and both of them told me they need my birth certificate before they can finish the onboarding paperwork. I was born in Allegheny County but the record got messed up years ago and the only way to get a certified copy is through the state office in Harrisburg, which is charging me $290 when you add the expedited processing and the notarized form I had to get done. I went to the library on Federal Street to use the computers and print the forms, and I tried applying for a fee waiver through the courthouse but they said it didn't apply since I wasn't born here in Pittsburgh originally. My neighbor upstairs was letting me use her Wi-Fi to track the application but her service got shut off last week so now I'm doing everything off my phone at the library when I can get a computer. If someone can help me with the $290 I can submit it today and have the certificate in hand by Wednesday afternoon. I'll post the receipt and the tracking confirmation as soon as it's filed. Once I start getting paychecks I'll put the first $50 aside to help the next person on here who needs it.

  • I started a new job at a warehouse out by the airport on the 3rd, my first steady work since the layoff in November. Problem is the pay cycle runs behind, so my first check doesn't hit until Friday the 27th, and I'm out of just about everything. I paid rent and the SMUD bill first, which left $11.43 in checking. I've already gone to the county office on 28th Street and applied for CalFresh, but the interview isn't until next week and the card wouldn't arrive in time anyway. My sister brought over rice, eggs, and a bag of frozen chicken thighs last Saturday, and that's basically carried me since. What I need is $290 to cover groceries for the next ten days: milk, bread, beans, produce, coffee, and a few things my kid will actually eat for lunch. Once the paycheck clears I can pay it back or pass it to someone else here. I can show the offer letter and the pay stub when it comes.

  • I got hired at a warehouse out on the west side and orientation is next Wednesday. The problem is my only decent pair of boots split along the sole back in August and I duct-taped them, which worked until the rain got in. I need $100 for steel-toe boots because the job requires them on day one and I can't show up in sneakers. I already checked the goodwill on Lorain and the Salvation Army on Ridge, nothing in my size, and I called Ohio Means Jobs but their work-gear voucher has a waitlist of about a month. I also have a court date this coming Tuesday for a traffic thing and the public defender said if I miss it there's a warrant, so I can't pick up the extra shifts I was counting on to save for the boots. Anything helps. I'll bring the receipt and send a photo of me in them at the orientation. Once I get my first paycheck I'll pass the same amount along to the next person on here who's stuck.

  • I work overnights at a distribution warehouse out on the west side of Knoxville, and up until four weeks ago I was pulling six hours of overtime every paycheck. That ended when they reorganized the shift leads and moved my crew to a different line. My base pay alone doesn't cover the bills my overtime was covering, and I've already sold plasma twice this month and borrowed $40 from my brother, so I'm not asking lightly. I need $180 to get groceries for me and my two kids through next Wednesday, which is when my next check hits and the overtime picture gets clearer. Kroger runs a 10-for-$10 on the pasta and canned vegetables I cook with, and I shop the marked-down meat at Food City on Saturday mornings, so the money goes further than it sounds. I can show the pay stub that confirms the overtime drop and the reduction letter from HR. Payback won't happen by mail, but if you're local I'll hand you cash in person or bring you a gas card on the 16th, whichever helps more. My neighbor told me about this site, and I've already passed the tip along to a guy on my line who's in the same spot.

  • I got laid off from the hospital kitchen on the 3rd and my benefits packet came back half in Spanish and half in English, and the appeal deadline is the 28th. The county office near the hospital district says I filed the wrong form, but I can't tell what the letters are asking for and every time I call I get a different answer. My daughter's daycare raised her rate from 185 to 240 a week mid-month, and I'm short $180 to keep her spot through the 30th. I already asked my sister, sold my old phone, and tried the payment plan the daycare offers, but they want the difference up front. If I can cover this one week I can drop her off while I sit at the county office and get the packet sorted in person instead of on hold. I'll confirm with the daycare receipt the same day, and once my appeal goes through I'll send the $180 to whoever helps or to the next person on here who posts something similar.

  • I work the swing shift at the Lesner yard and for two years I counted on overtime to make the math work. In early February they moved our crew under a new lead and the extra hours just evaporated, no warning, no sit-down, nothing. My first check without it came to $412 when I'd budgeted for $700, and I have two kids at home and a wife whose hours got trimmed at the same time at the outlet on Lynnhaven. We're scraping the pantry now. I'm asking for $210 so I can do one real grocery run at the Food Lion on Shore Drive: rice, chicken leg quarters, peanut butter, eggs, frozen veg, milk, bread, a bag of apples. I already went to the Chesapeake social services office off 64 and they said I qualify but it takes two to three weeks to process, and I didn't want to take out a payday loan on top of everything else. I can show my latest pay stub and the old one to prove the overtime dropped, and I'll send a photo of the receipt. I get paid the Friday after next and I will cover the next two families on this board who ask.

  • I moved into a studio near Park Blvd in mid-January after my roommate bailed on our old place in City Heights. I put down first month plus deposit, and it cleaned out everything I had. Then SDG&E sent a shutoff notice ten days ago, $238 and change, disconnect scheduled for the 28th. I'm on the CARE list but the balance predates my enrollment. I applied for rental assistance through the county and got waitlisted, and 211 gave me a couple of church numbers but nobody picked up. I start a seasonal job at the zoo on the 3rd doing grounds work, but the first paycheck is three weeks out, and if the power's off I can't keep food cold and I sure can't do the online onboarding modules they sent me. $250 covers the bill and the reconnect fee if it comes to that. I can send a photo of the final notice and a receipt once it's paid. I'll pay it back out of my first two checks to whoever fronts it, and pass the rest to the next person on this board.

  • My husband and I live out on the west side, near the old Foothills Mall area. We lost our lease back in August when he got laid off from his warehouse job and I couldn't keep up on my medical billing shifts after the clinic cut hours. Right now everything we own is in a 10x10 storage unit off Ina Road, and the bill is $130. It was due on the 20th, so it's already late. I called the office, and the manager said if it isn't paid by Monday morning they'll lock us out and start lien proceedings. Monday is also our DES hearing for food stamps and emergency cash assistance, and we've been waiting on that paperwork since early January. I don't have the cash because we've been putting what little we get from plasma donations toward gas and a motel room. We tried 211, and Community Food Bank helped with groceries once, but they don't do storage. What I need is the $130 so we can pay the unit before the hearing. I can show the past-due notice and a receipt once it's paid, and I'll pay it forward by helping my sister's church with their Saturday meal service once we're back on our feet.

  • I'm down near the river in Minneapolis, a few blocks east of the West River Parkway, and I'm stuck. I lost my kitchen job at a hotel downtown back in early February when they cut the breakfast shift, and I've been chasing benefits ever since. The county sent a packet that has to be back to them postmarked by the 25th. Some of it is in English, some is not, and the parts I can't read are the parts that decide whether my kids keep their health coverage. My oldest is home all break, so I can't just sit at a library computer for four hours with a phone translator. I already called two legal aid lines and got voicemail both times, and the one agency I reached in person said they only do taxes until April. What I need is someone who reads and writes this language well enough to go through maybe nine or ten pages with me and fill in the questions I keep skipping. I'd do it in one sitting if that works, or two shorter ones before the 25th, whichever fits your schedule better than mine. I can't pay for this, but I still owe $220 on the gas bill and I get my first paycheck from the new dishwashing job at the co-op on the 22nd. If you help me, I'll put $220 down on your bill or hand it to whoever you say, and I'll write it out in front of you so it's not just talk.
