Senior Accountant - month-end close (Rochester, NY)

We are growing our team at Harborlight Haven Insurance and adding a Senior Accountant whose main responsibility will be month-end close. You would join a large organisation of more than 1,000 people based in Rochester. What you will do • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Track costs around claims against budget and explain variances to managers. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • Experience with premium billing. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 20 hours a week, mornings. • On site in Rochester, with some flexibility after the first few months. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
