Senior Accountant - month-end close (remote)

Cedar Energy supplies electricity and gas to homes and businesses around Chicago, and we need a Senior Accountant to lead our month-end close. You would join a large organisation of about 370 people, working mostly from home. What you will do • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to usage data, and clear open items. • Track costs around billing disputes against budget and explain variances to managers. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. What we are looking for • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Experience with usage data. Working arrangement • Full-time, with a steady weekday schedule. • Fully remote, with a monthly team day in Chicago. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
