Senior Accountant - month-end close (remote)

Cedar Iron Insurance is an insurance company in Jackson with claims and service teams. We are hiring a Senior Accountant to take on month-end close. You would work closely with colleagues in operations, support and management. What you will do • Track costs around policy renewals against budget and explain variances to managers. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Experience with customer complaints. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 24 hours a week, mornings. • Fully remote, with a monthly team day in Jackson. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
