Senior Accountant - month-end close (Grand Rapids, MI)

Fernwood Birch Transit Planning is looking for a Senior Accountant. The job centres on month-end close for accessibility audits, and it would suit someone who likes steady, practical work. You would join a small organisation of about 95 people based in Grand Rapids. What you will do • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to accessibility audits, and clear open items. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • Experience with accessibility audits. Working arrangement • Contract for six months, with the possibility of becoming permanent. • On site in Grand Rapids, with some flexibility after the first few months. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
