Senior Accountant - grant and fund accounting (Chicago, IL)

Bright Harbor Energy Group delivers power and gas plans across the Chicago region, and we need a Senior Accountant to lead our grant and fund accounting. You would join a small organisation of about 52 people based in Chicago. What you will do • Track costs around usage data against budget and explain variances to managers. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 24 hours a week, afternoons. • On site in Chicago, with some flexibility after the first few months. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
