Senior Accountant - grant and fund accounting (Chicago, IL)

Bluepeak Sable Community Partners is a nonprofit in Chicago supporting families with food, housing and job help. We are hiring a Senior Accountant to take on grant and fund accounting. You would join a large organisation of about 749 people based in Chicago. What you will do • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to client intake, and clear open items. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. What we are looking for • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Experience with client intake. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 28 hours a week, with flexible days. • On site in Chicago. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
