Senior Accountant - fixed assets (Grand Rapids, MI)

Fernwood West Energy Group delivers power and gas plans across the Grand Rapids region. We are hiring a Senior Accountant to take on fixed assets. Reliability is the job, and people here take pride in answering the phone at 3 a.m. when needed. What you will do • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Track costs around hardship programmes against budget and explain variances to managers. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to billing disputes, and clear open items. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • Experience with billing disputes. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Full-time, with a steady weekday schedule. • On site in Grand Rapids. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
