Senior Accountant - fixed assets (Chicago, IL)

Fernwood Orchard Arts Center is a cultural organisation in Chicago presenting exhibitions and performances, and we need a Senior Accountant to lead our fixed assets. You would join a small organisation of about 97 people based in Chicago. What you will do • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to visitor services, and clear open items. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Track costs around volunteer programmes against budget and explain variances to managers. What we are looking for • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • Experience with visitor services. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Contract for eight months, with the possibility of becoming permanent. • On site in Chicago, with some flexibility after the first few months. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
