Senior Accountant - audit preparation (remote)

Cedar Wren Farms grows and distributes produce from farms near Chicago, and we need a Senior Accountant to lead our audit preparation. Seasons are busy and the rest of the year is for planning. What you will do • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Track costs around field records against budget and explain variances to managers. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. What we are looking for • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • Experience with seasonal crews. Working arrangement • Contract for three months, with the possibility of becoming permanent. • Remote-friendly, with quarterly visits in Chicago. • We reply to every applicant.
