Senior Accountant - audit preparation (Kansas City, MO)

Fernwood Lantern Early Learning operates neighbourhood childcare around Kansas City. We are hiring a Senior Accountant to take on audit preparation. You would join a large organisation of more than 1,000 people based in Kansas City. What you will do • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to classroom supplies, and clear open items. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. What we are looking for • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Contract for four months, with a review at the end and a chance of extension. • On site in Kansas City. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
