Senior Accountant - audit preparation (Hartford, CT)

Harborlight River Community Partners is a Hartford charity working with residents on basic needs and opportunity. We are hiring a Senior Accountant to take on audit preparation. Flexibility and kindness are expected. What you will do • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to grant reporting, and clear open items. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Contract for nine months, with clear deliverables from the first week. • On site in Hartford. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
