Senior Accountant - accounts payable (Rochester, NY)

Fernwood Ashton Freight Group moves freight for manufacturers and retailers out of Rochester. We are hiring a Senior Accountant to take on accounts payable. On-time is the promise and we work hard to keep it. What you will do • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Track costs around claims against budget and explain variances to managers. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to carrier rates, and clear open items. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. What we are looking for • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Experience with carrier rates. Working arrangement • Full-time, Monday to Friday. • On site in Rochester, with some flexibility after the first few months. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
