Senior Accountant - accounts payable (Rochester, NY)

Summit Meridian Freight is looking for a Senior Accountant. The job centres on accounts payable for carrier rates, and it would suit someone who likes steady, practical work. You would join a small organisation of about 86 people based in Rochester. What you will do • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to carrier rates, and clear open items. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. What we are looking for • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • Experience with carrier rates. • A degree or certificate in accounting.
