Senior Accountant - accounts payable (Memphis, TN)

Northwind Birch Transit Planning is a transit-planning firm in Memphis working with agencies and riders. We are hiring a Senior Accountant to take on accounts payable. We like people who ride the bus and notice when things do not work. What you will do • Track costs around accessibility audits against budget and explain variances to managers. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. Nice to have • Experience with route schedules. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 16 hours a week, with flexible days. • On site in Memphis. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
