Senior Accountant - accounts payable (Kansas City, MO)

Ironwood Beacon Water Authority is a public water utility serving the Kansas City area, and we need a Senior Accountant to lead our accounts payable. You would join a small organisation of about 183 people based in Kansas City. What you will do • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Track costs around treatment plant data against budget and explain variances to managers. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Experience with water quality. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 20 hours a week, spread across three days. • On site in Kansas City, with some flexibility after the first few months. • We reply to every applicant.
