Senior Accountant - accounts payable (Jackson, MS)

We are growing our team at Bright Vale Water Authority and adding a Senior Accountant whose main responsibility will be accounts payable. Our work is invisible when it goes well, and we are proud of that. What you will do • Track costs around pipe repairs against budget and explain variances to managers. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to capital projects, and clear open items. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. What we are looking for • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • Experience with capital projects. Working arrangement • Full-time, Monday to Friday. • On site in Jackson, with some flexibility after the first few months. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
