Senior Accountant - accounts payable (Indianapolis, IN)

Fernwood Wren Transit Planning plans bus and rail service for cities around Indianapolis. We are hiring a Senior Accountant to take on accounts payable. You would join a large organisation of more than 1,000 people based in Indianapolis. What you will do • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Track costs around accessibility audits against budget and explain variances to managers. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to fare systems, and clear open items. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • Experience with fare systems. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 24 hours a week, mornings. • On site in Indianapolis, with some flexibility after the first few months. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
