Senior Accountant - accounts payable (Birmingham, AL)

We are growing our team at Cedar North Insurance and adding a Senior Accountant whose main responsibility will be accounts payable. Claims teams work together and share what they learn. What you will do • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to policy renewals, and clear open items. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. What we are looking for • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • Experience with policy renewals. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Contract for three months, with a review at the end and a chance of extension. • On site in Birmingham, with some flexibility after the first few months. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
