Accountant - month-end close (Virginia Beach, VA)

We are growing our team at Fernwood Wren Freight Group and adding an Accountant whose main responsibility will be month-end close. You would join a large organisation of about 932 people based in Virginia Beach. What you will do • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Track costs around carrier rates against budget and explain variances to managers. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to claims, and clear open items. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. What we are looking for • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • Experience with claims. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 28 hours a week, spread across three days. • On site in Virginia Beach. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
