Accountant - month-end close (Virginia Beach, VA)

Stonegate Mill Arts Center Group is a cultural organisation in Virginia Beach presenting exhibitions and performances, and we need an Accountant to lead our month-end close. Evenings and weekends are part of the job. What you will do • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to visitor services, and clear open items. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Track costs around school partnerships against budget and explain variances to managers. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • Experience with visitor services. Working arrangement • Contract for four months, with clear deliverables from the first week. • On site in Virginia Beach. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
