Accountant - month-end close (Virginia Beach, VA)

Stonegate Ashton Civic Services Group provides shared administrative services to local governments around Virginia Beach, and we need an Accountant to lead our month-end close. You would work closely with colleagues in operations, support and management. What you will do • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Track costs around procurement against budget and explain variances to managers. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Contract for six months, with the possibility of becoming permanent. • On site in Virginia Beach. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
