Accountant - month-end close (Virginia Beach, VA)

Cedar Kestrel Housing manages affordable housing communities across Virginia Beach. We are hiring an Accountant to take on month-end close. Collaboration with local agencies is constant. What you will do • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to waiting lists, and clear open items. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Track costs around maintenance stores against budget and explain variances to managers. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. Nice to have • Experience with waiting lists. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Full-time, with a steady weekday schedule. • On site in Virginia Beach. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
