Accountant - month-end close (St. Louis, MO)

Harborlight Maple Water Authority supplies drinking water and treats wastewater for St. Louis and nearby communities, and we need an Accountant to lead our month-end close. Crews and office staff work closely together. What you will do • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to pipe repairs, and clear open items. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Track costs around capital projects against budget and explain variances to managers. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. What we are looking for • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Contract for twelve months, with clear deliverables from the first week. • On site in St. Louis, with some flexibility after the first few months. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
