Accountant - month-end close (Seattle, WA)

Fernwood Timber Water Authority is looking for an Accountant. The job centres on month-end close for meter reading, and it would suit someone who likes steady, practical work. You would join a small organisation of about 180 people based in Seattle. What you will do • Track costs around water quality against budget and explain variances to managers. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to meter reading, and clear open items. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • Experience with meter reading. Working arrangement • Contract for six months, with a review at the end and a chance of extension. • On site in Seattle, with some flexibility after the first few months. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
