Accountant - month-end close (San Jose, CA)

Greenridge Beacon Water Authority operates treatment plants and pipelines around San Jose, and we need an Accountant to lead our month-end close. You would join a small organisation of about 36 people based in San Jose. What you will do • Track costs around pipe repairs against budget and explain variances to managers. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to water quality, and clear open items. What we are looking for • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • Experience with water quality. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 16 hours a week, afternoons. • On site in San Jose, with some flexibility after the first few months. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
