Accountant - month-end close (Richmond, VA)

We are growing our team at Northwind Orchard Freight and adding an Accountant whose main responsibility will be month-end close. On-time is the promise and we work hard to keep it. What you will do • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to loads and lanes, and clear open items. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Track costs around customer tracking against budget and explain variances to managers. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. What we are looking for • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Familiarity with audit requirements.
