Accountant - month-end close (remote)

Fernwood Orchard Energy is looking for an Accountant. The job centres on month-end close for hardship programmes, and it would suit someone who likes steady, practical work. You would join a small organisation of about 72 people, working mostly from home. What you will do • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to hardship programmes, and clear open items. • Track costs around billing disputes against budget and explain variances to managers. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. What we are looking for • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • Experience with hardship programmes. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Contract for four months, with the possibility of becoming permanent. • Fully remote, with quarterly visits in Indianapolis. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
