Accountant - month-end close (remote)

Clearpath Beacon Press produces print and digital publications in Oakland. We are hiring an Accountant to take on month-end close. You would join a small organisation of about 179 people, working mostly from home. What you will do • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Track costs around proofing against budget and explain variances to managers. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to customer orders, and clear open items. What we are looking for • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • Experience with customer orders. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Full-time, on a regular day shift. • Remote-friendly, with an occasional day on site in Oakland. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
