Accountant - month-end close (remote)

Bright Kestrel Housing Group is a nonprofit housing provider in Austin. We are hiring an Accountant to take on month-end close. You would join a large organisation of more than 1,000 people, working mostly from home. What you will do • Track costs around rent assistance against budget and explain variances to managers. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to lease compliance, and clear open items. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. What we are looking for • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • Experience with lease compliance. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 20 hours a week, spread across three days. • Remote-friendly, with an occasional day on site in Austin. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
