Accountant - month-end close (remote)

Lumen Fern Arts Center is an arts centre in Houston with a full calendar of events, and we need an Accountant to lead our month-end close. You would join a small organisation of about 28 people, working mostly from home. What you will do • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to school partnerships, and clear open items. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Track costs around exhibitions against budget and explain variances to managers. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. What we are looking for • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Contract for six months, with the possibility of becoming permanent. • Fully remote, with a monthly team day in Houston. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
