Accountant - month-end close (remote)

Foxglove Wilder Insurance sells home, auto and small-business insurance in Oakland. We are hiring an Accountant to take on month-end close. You would work closely with colleagues in operations, support and management. What you will do • Track costs around catastrophe response against budget and explain variances to managers. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to claims, and clear open items. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • Experience with claims. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 28 hours a week, mornings. • Remote-friendly, with an occasional day on site in Oakland. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
