Accountant - month-end close (remote)

Ironwood Cobalt Water Authority supplies drinking water and treats wastewater for Indianapolis and nearby communities. We are hiring an Accountant to take on month-end close. Crews and office staff work closely together. What you will do • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to water quality, and clear open items. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Track costs around pipe repairs against budget and explain variances to managers. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • Experience with water quality. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Contract for nine months, with a review at the end and a chance of extension. • Remote-friendly, with an occasional day on site in Indianapolis. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
