Accountant - month-end close (remote)

Nova Rook Water Authority is a public water utility serving the Birmingham area, and we need an Accountant to lead our month-end close. You would join a small organisation of about 33 people, working mostly from home. What you will do • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to meter reading, and clear open items. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Track costs around pipe repairs against budget and explain variances to managers. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. What we are looking for • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • Experience with meter reading. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 24 hours a week, afternoons. • Fully remote, with a monthly team day in Birmingham. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
