Accountant - month-end close (remote)

Cedar Junction Insurance Group is an insurance company in Knoxville with claims and service teams, and we need an Accountant to lead our month-end close. You would join a small organisation of about 24 people, working mostly from home. What you will do • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to claims, and clear open items. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Track costs around policy renewals against budget and explain variances to managers. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. What we are looking for • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • Experience with claims. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Contract for six months, with a review at the end and a chance of extension. • Remote-friendly, with a monthly team day in Knoxville. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
