Accountant - month-end close (remote)

Northwind Pike Insurance provides coverage to households and businesses around Detroit. We are hiring an Accountant to take on month-end close. We invest in training for new adjusters. What you will do • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Track costs around premium billing against budget and explain variances to managers. What we are looking for • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • Experience with catastrophe response. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 28 hours a week, mornings. • Remote-friendly, with quarterly visits in Detroit. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
