Accountant - month-end close (Orlando, FL)

Nova Water Authority is a public water utility serving the Orlando area, and we need an Accountant to lead our month-end close. You would work closely with colleagues in operations, support and management. What you will do • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to meter reading, and clear open items. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Track costs around billing accounts against budget and explain variances to managers. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. What we are looking for • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • Experience with meter reading. Working arrangement • Contract for twelve months, with the possibility of becoming permanent. • On site in Orlando. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
