Accountant - month-end close (Oakland, CA)

Summit Lantern Learning Group runs classrooms and tutoring across the Oakland area, and we need an Accountant to lead our month-end close. You would join a small organisation of about 29 people based in Oakland. What you will do • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Track costs around student accounts against budget and explain variances to managers. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to school calendars, and clear open items. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. What we are looking for • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • Experience with school calendars. Working arrangement • Contract for three months, with clear deliverables from the first week. • On site in Oakland. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
