Accountant - month-end close (New Orleans, LA)

Northwind Vista Water Authority supplies drinking water and treats wastewater for New Orleans and nearby communities. We are hiring an Accountant to take on month-end close. Safety and public health guide our decisions. What you will do • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to water quality, and clear open items. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • Experience with water quality. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 28 hours a week, with flexible days. • On site in New Orleans. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
