Accountant - month-end close (Milwaukee, WI)

Summit Birch Energy Group is an energy provider in Milwaukee focused on reliable service and fair billing. We are hiring an Accountant to take on month-end close. You would join a large organisation of about 449 people based in Milwaukee. What you will do • Track costs around outage response against budget and explain variances to managers. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to meter readings, and clear open items. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Contract for three months, with a review at the end and a chance of extension. • On site in Milwaukee. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
