Accountant - month-end close (Jackson, MS)

Fernwood Basin Arts Center runs a venue and education programmes in Jackson, and we need an Accountant to lead our month-end close. You would join a small organisation of about 19 people based in Jackson. What you will do • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to school partnerships, and clear open items. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Experience with school partnerships. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 24 hours a week, spread across three days. • On site in Jackson. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
