Accountant - month-end close (Houston, TX)

We are growing our team at Fernwood Mill Arts Center Group and adding an Accountant whose main responsibility will be month-end close. You would join a small organisation of about 141 people based in Houston. What you will do • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Track costs around volunteer programmes against budget and explain variances to managers. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. Nice to have • Experience with exhibitions. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 24 hours a week, afternoons. • On site in Houston, with some flexibility after the first few months. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
