Accountant - month-end close (Hartford, CT)

Bright Ember Water Authority Group is a public water utility serving the Hartford area. We are hiring an Accountant to take on month-end close. Our work is invisible when it goes well, and we are proud of that. What you will do • Track costs around treatment plant data against budget and explain variances to managers. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to pipe repairs, and clear open items. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. Nice to have • Experience with pipe repairs. • Familiarity with audit requirements.
