Accountant - month-end close (Fresno, CA)

Fernwood Iron Insurance provides coverage to households and businesses around Fresno. We are hiring an Accountant to take on month-end close. You would join a small organisation of about 17 people based in Fresno. What you will do • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Track costs around policy renewals against budget and explain variances to managers. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to premium billing, and clear open items. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. What we are looking for • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • Experience with premium billing. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Contract for four months, with clear deliverables from the first week. • On site in Fresno. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
