Accountant - month-end close (Detroit, MI)

Nova Fox Early Learning Group operates neighbourhood childcare around Detroit. We are hiring an Accountant to take on month-end close. You would work closely with colleagues in operations, support and management. What you will do • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to enrolment, and clear open items. • Track costs around licensing records against budget and explain variances to managers. What we are looking for • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Full-time, on a regular day shift. • On site in Detroit, with some flexibility after the first few months. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
