Accountant - month-end close (Detroit, MI)

Amberfield Junction Community Partners is a Detroit charity working with residents on basic needs and opportunity, and we need an Accountant to lead our month-end close. You would join a large organisation of about 226 people based in Detroit. What you will do • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Track costs around client intake against budget and explain variances to managers. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to food distribution, and clear open items. What we are looking for • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. Nice to have • Experience with food distribution. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Contract for four months, with a review at the end and a chance of extension. • On site in Detroit, with some flexibility after the first few months. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
