Accountant - month-end close (Detroit, MI)

Stonegate Birch Arts Center is an arts centre in Detroit with a full calendar of events. We are hiring an Accountant to take on month-end close. You would work closely with colleagues in operations, support and management. What you will do • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to visitor services, and clear open items. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Track costs around volunteer programmes against budget and explain variances to managers. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • Experience with visitor services. Working arrangement • Full-time, Monday to Friday. • On site in Detroit. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
